Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa

Michael Brown has claimed Marcelo Bielsa may pull off a shock Leeds United move by copying Brentford’s formula against Fulham.

The former Leeds midfielder, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, suggests the Argentine boss will be caught in two minds over how to approach the game against the “very dangerous” Cottagers.

The Whites suffered a 2-0 defeat to Cardiff on their first game back from lockdown, with the Cottagers losing by the same scoreline to Brentford.

Having seen the Bees nullify their play-off rivals last weekend, Brown suggests that Bielsa will be weighing up whether to shake things up from his side’s own disappointing performance.

Asked if he saw the Leeds boss making any changes for Saturday’s clash, Brown told Football Insider: “I don’t expect too many changes because we haven’t seen much of that at all, he tries to limit those, unless he sees something where he can freshen it up in key areas.

“We all know now how much he studies the opposition and it’s always a tough one for the manager when you see another team exploit them the weekend before – do you follow that path, do you stick to your ways and what you do?

“Obviously there’s a Fulham side who will say: ‘They’ll probably look to do this to us and how do we adapt?’ There’s always that, you can overstudy it at times.

“It’s about a quick performance from Leeds United and they’ll say how can they put this Fulham side on the back foot, how can they dominate early on? What I would say is they’re very dangerous, this Fulham side, they’ve got attacking options like nobody else, they’ll be disappointed with the result.

“What a game, it’s a brilliant game.”

Fulham manager Scott Parker

Leeds currently sit second in the Championship table with just goal difference keeping them behind West Brom.

Fulham sit a further seven points behind the top two in third, with fourth-placed Brentford now just one point and one place off Scott Parker’s men.
