Exclusive: Blackpool close to signing Millwall star George Honeyman after breakthrough
Blackpool are closing in on the signing of Millwall midfielder George Honeyman on a free transfer after a breakthrough in talks, sources have told Football Insider.
Honeyman, 30, is out of contract at Millwall at the end of the month and is set to move on despite being offered a new deal at The Den.
A number of English and overseas clubs have shown an interest in former Sunderland man Honeyman.
However, League One side Blackpool are now emerging as favourites to land the player.
Honeyman set to leave Millwall despite being offered new deal
Honeyman remained a regular starter for Millwall last term as they narrowly missed out on a place in the Championship’s play-offs.
He made 45 appearances across all competitions for the Lions, starting in 31 of those outings.

The attacking midfielder, who has racked up 228 games in the Championship in total, notched two goals and six assists in the 2024-25 campaign.
Honeyman came through the ranks with Sunderland and made 97 appearances for his boyhood club before joining Hull in 2019 – and moving on to Millwall three years later.
The League One champion is now set for a move to Bloomfield Road after Blackpool’s ninth-place finish under Steve Bruce last season.

Millwall resigned to losing star man
Meanwhile at The Den, Football Insider has revealed (16 June) that Millwall are resigned to losing star defender Japhet Tanganga this summer.
Promoted trio Leeds United, Sunderland and Burnley are all keen on the 26-year-old with the summer window now reopen.
Tanganga has a £1.2million release clause for top-flight clubs in his contract at Millwall – who signed him on a free transfer just last summer (2024).
