The Serbian defender has been offered a one-year extension by the club on top of his current agreement, which expires in 12 months.
Ivanovic had been keen for a deal that would run until 2018 but he is set to settle for the deal on offer, which is in line with the club’s policy of handing one-year deals to players over 30.
The right-back, who turned 31 in February, has been has been Chelsea’s regular right-back since signing from Lokomotiv Moscow in 2008 and started all 38 of the team’s Premier League matches in their recently completed title-winning campaign.
Manager Jose Mourinho is a big admirer of the Serbian’s resilience and has made it clear that he regards him as an integral member of his team.
