Exclusive: Brentford and Ipswich Town make moves to sign Brennan Johnson

Brentford and Ipswich Town have joined the race to sign Tottenham winger Brennan Johnson in January, sources have told Football Insider.

Crystal Palace have already registered their interest in the former Nottingham Forest star, 24.

Now Premier League Brentford and Championship outfit Ipswich have let it be known that they are interested in a January loan deal.

Tottenham are weighing up whether to let Johnson go in the upcoming winter window.

He has four goals from 20 appearances in all competitions this season, but has started only six of Tottenham’s sixteen Premier League matches.

Johnson is wanted by Palace

Johnson will forever be a hero in the eyes of many Spurs supporters after he poked home the winner in May’s Europa League final against Man United to earn the club some long-awaited silverware.

He scored 18 goals in 51 appearances last season to properly nail a place in the team down under Ange Postecoglou, but things have not worked out for him under Thomas Frank so far.

Football Insider recently revealed that Palace are preparing to make an offer for Johnson with a January move away from Spurs in the offing.

Frank has admitted that he wants to keep Johnson at the club next month, so a move could well depend on his desire for increased game-time in the second half of the campaign.

Spurs struggles could leave to move

Johnson has started six of Tottenham’s 16 league matches this season but has not scored since the team’s 2-0 August win over Man City.

He has regularly been overlooked for the right-wing slot in favour of summer signing Mohammed Kudus, who has already provided six Premier League assists, as well as two goals, since his arrival.

Johnson has a Tottenham contract that runs until the summer of 2028, and also includes the option of a a further 12 months.
