
Exclusive: Brentford respond to Plymouth Argyle’s Matthew Cox approach
Brentford have rejected an approach from Plymouth Argyle for goalkeeper Matthew Cox, sources have told Football Insider.
Plymouth are searching for a new shot-stopper as they seek a replacement for Michael Cooper following his departure to Sheffield United.
The Championship club have enquired to Brentford about Cox’s availability but have seen their approach rebuffed.
The Bees want to keep the England Under-20 international around Thomas Frank’s first team.
Cox, 21, spent last season on loan at Bristol Rovers and the keeper is highly regarded within the corridors of power at Brentford.
He made 34 appearances across all competitions for the Gas in the 2023-24 campaign, conceding 51 goals and keeping three clean sheets.
Brentford rebuff Plymouth approach for goalkeeper Cox
The youngster is under contract in west London until June 2028 after signing a bumper extension two years ago.
Cox is competing with Hákon Rafn Valdimarsson to become the understudy of Mark Flekken at Brentford.
The Wimbledon academy product is capped by England up to Under-20 level and was called up to the Under-21 side last season.
