Exclusive: Brighton in major battle to keep colossus as PL clubs circle

Brighton & Hove Albion face a battle to keep hold of Christian Walton this summer following his impressive form on loan at Blackburn, Football Insider understands.

The goalkeeper, 24, is currently on a season-long loan at the Championship club and he has been integral to their climb to eighth in the table and just three points outside the play-off places.

A Brighton source has told Football Insider that Walton’s standout performances have brought him on to the radar of several Premier League and a number of Bundesliga clubs.

He has less than 18-months to run on his contract at the Amex Stadium.

This has alerted his suitors, who could be ready to test Brighton’s resolve to hang onto the 6ft 5in giant keeper this summer.

Walton has started every Championship game for Blackburn this season and he has kept 11 clean sheets in those games, including conceding just three goals in their last six matches.

The keeper spent the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons on loan at Wigan Athletic.

He helped them win promotion from League One in his first season with 19 clean sheets and he played a key role in helping secure their Championship status last term.
