Exclusive: Brighton & Leverkusen race to sign Strahinja Stojkovic

Brighton and Bayer Leverkusen are among a host of top European clubs tracking Red Star Belgrade sensation Strahinja Stojkovic, sources have told Football Insider.

Stojkovic, 17, has been earning rave reviews for Red Star’s U19s side with his performances in the UEFA Youth League particularly catching the eye.

The teenager’s displays against the likes of Benfica, Monaco and Barcelona have alerted clubs across all the top leagues in Europe.

Right-back Stojkovic is regarded as one of the best young talents to emerge from Serbia in recent years.

Sources say he is seen as a better talent than Red Star academy product Kosta Nedeljkovic, who joined Aston Villa last January.

Brighton and Leverkusen have a proven track record of unearthing some of the best young talent in the world and developing them into first-team stars.

Stojkovic does not turn 18 until next March but has already played for Serbia’s Under-19 side and is a regular in the Red Star youth side.

The Belgrade-born talent is an imposing figure at right-back, standing at six feet two inches.

Brighton sit eighth in the Premier League under new boss Fabian Hürzeler, who has had no problem continuing the club’s ethos of giving youth a chance.

Meanwhile, Leverkusen are playing Champions League football after last season’s title win but sit fourth in the Bundesliga table.
