Exclusive: Brighton preparing to recall Carl Rushworth, new deal lined up

Brighton are preparing to recall Carl Rushworth from his Hull City loan in January amid interest from other Premier League clubs, sources have told Football Insider.

Rushworth, who is set to return to training next week after an ankle injury, has yet to feature for Hull and was set to get his chance in the side just before breaking down in October.

Brighton have a recall option in Rushworth’s loan deal for the first 10 days of the January transfer window and they are now planning to activate it before it expires.

The England Under-21 international is attracting interest from some Premier League and Championship clubs, which is why the Seagulls are now looking to act.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper has gained experience in other loan moves, but he is yet to play a single minute of Premier League football.

Throughout his short career, he’s made 167 appearances and has kept 50 clean sheets while conceding 208 goals.

Brighton could look to give him some minutes

The Seagulls currently have Bart Verbuggen as their current number-one goalkeeper, but the club could look to give Rushworth some minutes in cup competitions to build his experience.

However, with multiple teams interested the club could also choose to cash in on him if they wish.

Brighton currently sit 10th in the Premier League table and have only conceded 26 goals in their first 18 matches.

Rushworth has showcased his qualities during previous loan spells, having been a first-choice goalkeeper for Lincoln, Swansea, and Walsall throughout his career.

He climbed up the ranks through Brighton’s academy, but he has never played a minute for the first team.
