'Interesting...' - Exclusive: Brown reacts as Leeds work on £5m deal
Michael Brown has hailed the defensive improvements at Leeds United but admits he still has doubts over Illan Meslier amid talks over a permanent deal.
The former Leeds enforcer, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes the resolute performances at the back have been crucial in the club’s push for promotion.
The Whites have conceded just once in their last six games, with a run of five clean sheets – despite a change of goalkeepers after Kiko Casilla’s ban.
As revealed exclusively by Football Insider, Leeds have told Lorient that they intend to trigger Meslier’s £5million purchase clause after being hugely impressed with his development.
However, Brown is not convinced he has done enough to earn a move, with just three first-team games under his belt.
“You can see, just looking back now, over the last six games they’ve conceded just one goal,” Brown told Football Insider.

“That’s what Marcelo Bielsa – yes, we know that creative side of trying to create more opportunities – but that’s really been key in their improvement.
“Over the last six or so games that defensive setup, that network, they’re going on extremely well.”
Asked if Meslier had done enough to earn a future at Elland Road, Brown said: “He’s started what, three games? A couple of games, it will be interesting to see how he gets on and hopefully that defence can help him out but he’s started three games.”
Leeds have the best defensive record in the Championship this season, their 30 goals conceded three less than Brentford and seven less than West Brom.
