Alex Bruce has hailed brilliant Man United loanee Dean Henderson and tipped him to replace David de Gea.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Premier League defender and United academy product has been blown away by Henderson’s form on loan at Sheffield United this season.

The 22-year-old is at Bramall Lane for a second consecutive campaign and has made just as big an impact as he did during their Championship promotion season.

Bruce is in no doubt that United have a massive talent on their hands and claims he has the ability to eventually succeed superstar Spaniard De Gea.

“He’s consistent, so hats off to him,” Bruce told Football Insider. “He’s really young for a goalkeeper, he’s on loan from Manchester United, so the fact that he’s gone in there and been so consistent with his performances at 22, to go to the Premier League and do so well is brilliant.

“I’m sure Man United are looking going: ‘Well if De Gea ever did leave, we’ve got a ready-made replacement here.’

“He’s done exceptionally well, it’s been highlighted obviously by Gareth Southgate, he’s getting picked, Pickford’s been a little bit hit and miss with his form this season so the fact he’s knocking on the England door tells it’s own story.”

Henderson’s growing authority comes at a time when De Gea’s form has been under scrutiny at Old Trafford.

The long-stand United number one, 29, has started all 28 of the club’s Premier League matches this season after signing a new contract last September that runs until the summer of 2023.
