'I'd want to fight him' - Exclusive: Bruce delivers explosive verdict on Rangers player

Alex Bruce has explosively revealed he wanted to fight Alfredo Morelos as he explained what it’s really like playing against the Rangers hitman.

The 35-year-old centre-back and new Football Insider columnist spoke openly to correspondent Russell Edge after ending his one-year spell at Kilmarnock at the end of last month.

Bruce, the son of Newcastle United manager Steve, last came up against Morelos, 23, at Ibrox on Boxing Day, when he came off the bench to scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 SPL win for Rangers.

“When I was younger I’d want to fight him, I’d want to go after him and try fight him as best you can,” Bruce told Football Insider.

“As you get older you realise sometimes it’s not the right thing to do. Step off, let him have his space, don’t get into grappling matches with him, try and play him a little bit differently and try and be a little bit cuter than what he is.

“That’s what I thought when I played against him.”

Bruce’s experience of the Colombia international, who has scored 29 goals from 40 matches in all competitions this season, is that he is an extremely tough opponent.

“He’s an old-fashioned striker where he comes alive in the box,” ex-Premier League defender Bruce explained to Football Insider. “Outside the box he doesn’t really give you that much but when the ball comes across your goal, or when it’s played up to him on the edge of the 18-yard box or whatever, he comes alive.

“He gets his big backside into you, he wants to roll you, wants to grapple you and he always seems to get a shot off.

“He’s one of those that likes scoring goals, he’s a really good player.”

In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED that the club have landed a sensational £18m windfall…and another £1m may be on the way to Ibrox.
