Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa

Alex Bruce insists there is no reason why Rangers defender Borna Barisic would not be a good signing for Leeds United this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Leeds and Kilmarnock centre-back believes the left-back is “highly-sought-after” and that he would be a welcome addition at Elland Road.

As revealed by Football Insider, the Whites have set their sights on signing the 27-year-old after Marcelo Bielsa made a left-sided defender a priority ahead of their Premier League return.

The Croatia international bounced back from an indifferent first season at Ibrox to establish himself as one of Steven Gerrard’s top performers last term.

As well as remaining defensively resolute for the Light Blues, Barisic also managed to contribute 14 assists across all competitions.

Bruce believes that if Leeds are looking to sign a left-back, they could do a lot worse than the Rangers star.

Bruce told Football Insider: “I think when you’re a Championship side and you get promoted into the Premier League, you look to strengthen in all areas.

“I think most managers like to have a couple of options in every area so yeah, if he feels like he needs a left-back, he’s not a bad one, is he, Barisic?

“He’s done well at Rangers, he’s highly-sought-after so I can’t see why he wouldn’t be a decent signing.”

Whites boss Marcelo Bielsa used Stuart Dallas as his first-choice left-back for the majority of last season as the Northern Ireland international played in all but one Championship game.

Ezgjan Alioski and Barry Douglas also featured as Leeds stormed their way to the league title.
