Exclusive: ‘Burnley boss Scott Parker would love to get Tottenham job’

Burnley manager Scott Parker is thought likely to be delighted if offered to chance to replace Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham.

Former Spurs winger Chris Waddle told Football Insider exclusively that the ex-Bournemouth manager would be walking into a “hard job” if he took over in North London and downplayed his candidacy.

Despite reaching 100 points in the Championship, Burnley missed out on winning the title due to Leeds’ incredible attack, with the Whites winning out on goal difference.

Postecoglou is under immense pressure at Tottenham and seems unlikely to retain his job should they fail to beat Man United in the Europa League final.

If the former Celtic boss is let go, Parker has been touted as an option for Tottenham, alongside Andoni Iraola, Thomas Frank, and Marco Silva.

Scott Parker’s past failures in Premier League could be a concern

Daniel Farke has faced intense scrutiny over his past failings in the Premier League, with Leeds reportedly looking at alternative options at one point.

However, the same questions exist for Parker, who was fired by both Fulham and Bournemouth following dismal spells in England’s top-flight.

The Englishman’s squad at Craven Cottage included Aleksander Mitrovic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Ola Aina and plenty of other players who have established themselves as top-notch footballers.

Parker’s Burnley side are returning to the Premier League with some remarkable defensive stats, including keeping 30 clean sheets and conceding just 16 in 46 games.

But there remain concerns about their attacking capabilities, something that former Tottenham star Waddle is worried about.

Scott Parker ‘would love’ Tottenham opportunity says Chris Waddle

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, via NewBettingSites.uk, Waddle explained why he found it hard to be excited by the prospect of Parker taking over, highlighting Burnley’s lack of attacking capabilities as something that was particularly problematic.

He said: “The Championship is the Championship and let’s be honest, the three who go up will likely be the three who go down.

“That’s the gulf, the gap is that big. So, if they concede 80 goals after conceding 16 this season Burnley, if he concedes 80 to 90 goals next season, will we be saying he was the right man?

“You’re only as good as your players, another question mark would be, Burnley play counter-attacking football. And they sit and park the bus.

“Would Tottenham fans enjoy that? No.

“So, is he a Tottenham-type manager? Listen, if he can win trophies, he’s a Tottenham-type manager.

“If he’s gonna be mid-table and it’s boring, Tottenham fans will not have it.

Waddle then added: “So, will Scott Parker turn that into an attacking team that is exciting to watch what Tottenham fans will want to see? Hard job.”

In conclusion the ex-England star said: “Now, Scott Parker I’m sure, been living in London, would love to get an opportunity to manage a club like Tottenham, but will it be a good decision for him? I don’t think it would.”
