Burnley have opened talks to sign Benfica midfielder Alfa Semedo, Football Insider can reveal.
Sean Dyche’s team have made a move for the midfield enforcer, 21, after being altered to his availability this summer.
A Burnley source has told Football Insider that the club are working on a loan deal for Semedo, who has emerged from Benfica’s youth ranks to be valued at £25million.
The rising star made 19 appearances for the Portugese giants last season and played three times in the Champions League, scoring in a group-stage win over AEK Athens.
He was loaned out to La Liga outfit Espanyol in the second half of 2018-19 but only made three appearances.
Semedo was a favourite at Benfica of former manager Rui Vitoria, but the summer appointment of Bruno Lage has pushed him down the midfield pecking order at the club.
The Portugese media claimed earlier this week that Semedo was headed to English Championship club Wigan Athletic.
But that deal has stalled following the interest of Burnley, and it remains to be seen whether they can tie up a deal for the highly rated midfield anchorman.
In other Burnley news, it can be REVEALED that the club have set their sights on signing a key Leeds player.
