Cardiff City have agreed a deadline-day deal to sign Leicester City defender Filip Benkovic, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The Premier League club have given the green light for the giant centre-back, 23, to head out on loan this season.
A Cardiff source has told Football Insider the club have agreed a season-long loan deal with Leicester for Benkovic.
It is expected that the deal will be completed ahead of Friday’s 5pm transfer cut-off.
The player joined Leicester City from Dinamo Zagreb in the summer of 2018 for a fee of around £13 million.
Despite that sizeable fee, he has failed to establish himself in Brendan Rodgers’ high-performing side.
He has played just twice for the Foxes to date and neither appearance has come in the Premier League.
The Croatia international spent his first season in Britain on loan at Glasgow giants Celtic and played 27 times across all competitions on the way to a domestic treble with the Bhoys.
Benkovic returned to the King Power Stadium last summer but after he featured in just one Premier League matchday squad and made his an appearance in the FA Cup, he joined Bristol City on a temporary basis in January.
He featured 10 times and scored two goals for the Robins in the Championship and is now set to drop back into the second tier with Cardiff.
The Bluebirds have made an indifferent start to the new campaign with one win, one draw and two defeats under their belts.
