Exclusive: Caylan Vickers set for Wigan Athletic medical after Brighton deal agreed
Brighton winger Caylan Vickers is set to undergo a medical on deadline day ahead of a permanent move to Wigan Athletic, sources have told Football Insider.
The 21-year-old spent the first half of the season out on loan at Barnsley, but he is now set to move to League One on a permanent basis with the Latics, after a deal was agreed with Brighton.
Wigan have already added Joe Taylor and Owen Moxon to their squad in the mid-season window, and Vickers is now destined to become their third new signing.
Ryan Lowe’s side are battling against relegation to the fourth tier, and they are only outside the bottom four on goal difference after they were beaten by Lincoln City last weekend.
Caylan Vickers already has plenty of League One experience
Lowe is under pressure at Wigan at the moment, with his team having won just one of their last 10 league games, a run that has dragged them increasingly closer to the relegation zone.
The Liverpudlian boss has tried to counter that by signing proven third tier expierence to his group during the window, and he is set to achieve that once again with Vickers.
The youngster notched four goal involvements from just 15 appearances for Barnsley earlier in the campaign, and has previously enjoyed loan spells with both Mansfield Town and Reading.
His time at Mansfield brought five goal contributions from 19 games last term.

Vickers’ parent club Brighton have now decided that they see no long-term future for the attacker at the Amex Stadium, and as a result, his switch to Wigan is now imminent.
Wigan set to lose out in Wes Harding pursuit
Football Insider revealed on Sunday that Wigan were chasing Millwall defender Wes Harding in the final stages of the window, but faced competition from Plymouth Argyle, who were ahead of them in the race.
That race now appears to have been won by the Pilgrims in the early stages of deadline day, with a deal now agreed for the 29-year-old to make the move to Devon.
Plymouth are also part of the huge relegation dogfight in the lower reaches of League One this term, and Harding will now become their second new signing of the window, provided that his switch can beat the deadline.
Wigan are set to boosted by a last-minute arrival on Monday, but that is also likely to coincide with their relegation rivals strengthen their own hand at the same time.
