Exclusive: Celtic and Rangers in ‘dangerous waters’, now face stadium bans

Celtic and Rangers will continue to be fined and then face a stadium ban in Europe for the behaviour of their fans, according to Keith Hackett.

The former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA official exclusively told Football Insider that both clubs are moving into “dangerous waters” with their fan’s behaviour in Europe.

Celtic were given a £13,000 and sanctioned over the “blocking of public passageways” during the Champions League match against BSC Young Boys.

The fine comes after the Hoops were punished in their previous European outing against Aston Villa, Celtic were forced to pay £8,400 after a flare was thrown onto the pitch.

Rangers meanwhile were given a formal warning by UEFA over the “improper conduct of the team” during their match against Union Saint-Gilloise a week later.

Celtic and Rangers being fined for their fans behaviour has been an ongoing issue, and both clubs could face further repercussions in the future.

Speaking to Football Insider, ex-PGMOL chief, Hackett, gave his verdict on the fines:

“Given the behaviour of their fans, it is inevitable that both clubs will continue to be fined.

“They are moving into dangerous waters, because if the fans do not start to behave, they run the risk of UEFA issuing a stadium ban.

“It is a pity because over many years at other tournaments, Scotland have a good reputation when it comes to World Cups, etc.”
