Exclusive: Celtic push to beat deadline for Jeffrey Schlupp from Crystal Palace

Celtic are trying to beat the deadline to sign versatile Crystal Palace midfielder Jeffrey Schlupp, sources have told Football Insider.

The 32-year-old is nearing the end of his contract at Selhurst Park, with just six months remaining. Having served the club for eight years, Palace are open to selling him if they receive an acceptable offer.

Schlupp had previously attracted interest from Championship sides Coventry and Stoke, but Brendan Rodgers’ team is now keen to secure his signature before the transfer deadline.

Celtic eye move for Jeffrey Schlupp as Crystal Palace future uncertain

Schlupp has made 16 appearances for Palace this season, but has yet to start a match under manager Oliver Glasner.

The versatile midfielder, who joined Palace from Leicester in 2017, has made 247 appearances for the club. However, his playing time this season has been limited to just 94 minutes, making it difficult for him to make an impact.

Over the years, he has been used in various roles, including left-midfield, central midfield, and left-back, and his adaptability could be appealing to Celtic.

Football Insider reported that the Glasgow club are optimistic about securing two signings before the deadline, with Schlupp being one of their targets.

After bringing Jota back to the club this month, Celtic are still looking to strengthen their squad. While former captain Kieran Tierney is expected to remain at Arsenal until the summer and join on a pre-contract deal, Schlupp could serve as an option to cover in that position.

Despite signing a contract extension last year, Schlupp’s long-term future at Palace now seems uncertain, with a potential move to Celtic on the cards if both clubs can agree on a fee before the deadline.

In other news, Jota has sent a message to Celtic fans after he made his return to the club.
