Exclusive: Celtic race top-six Premier League club to sign West Ham sensation

Celtic and a top-six Premier League club are plotting moves to sign West Ham youngster Elisha Sowunmi, sources have told Football Insider.

The 18-year-old has caught the eye of a number of clubs after impressing in West Ham‘s academy sides in recent seasons.

Sowunmi, who can play anywhere across the front line, finished as the Under-18s top goalscorer last season with 16 goals and five assists in all competitions.

The winger signed his first professional deal with West Ham last summer, but his rapid development has attracted interest from both an unnamed Premier League rival and Celtic.

Sowunmi has become one of the most highly-rated talents to come out of West Ham in the last few years, having thrived with the club’s youth teams.

He could now be set to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Divin Mubama, who made the move to Man City in 2024 after impressing with the Hammers.

Before he signed a professional contract at West Ham, Football Insider revealed that Club Brugge tried to sign Sowunmi, but he later put pen to paper at the London Stadium.

The forward has yet to make his first-team debut for the Hammers but remains very highly-rated in East London despite the interest from elsewhere.

Celtic and an unnamed top-six Premier League club are hopeful of luring him away from West Ham, but they remain in control over his long-term future.

West Ham could reignite Harry Maguire interest

West Ham have been busy with both incoming and outgoing deals so far this month, and are still putting plans in place both for now and the long-term future.

Former Irons scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 25 January that West Ham remain interested in Harry Maguire should he become available.

With just six months remaining on his current contract, the England international could be available for free in June, placing a number of clubs on alert.

The Hammers missed out on a deal to sign Maguire during David Moyes‘ time at the club after refusing to meet Man United’s asking price, but could now return.

This comes amid ongoing concerns about their current centre-back options including the likes of Max Kilman, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Jean-Clair Todibo.
