Exclusive: Celtic star Josh Dede undergoing Middlesbrough medical as deal agreed

Celtic defender Josh Dede is having a medical at Middlesbrough on Wednesday (29 January) after agreeing a deal, sources have told Football Insider.

The right-back’s Celtic contract was due to expire at the end of the season and that has opened the door for the English Championship club to finalise terms with the Scottish giants.

Dede, 19, came through the ranks at Celtic but never made a first-team appearance for the club.

He has featured extensively for the Glasgow giants’ B team in the 2024-25 campaign, making 21 appearances in the Lowland League and notching three goals.

The teen has also played for the Hoops in the Uefa Youth League against opposition like Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Atalanta.

Dede has proved a versatile option at youth level for his boyhood club, playing both in his natural right-back berth and in a more advanced winger role.

He has played for Scotland at youth level, making four appearances for the Under-19 side after starting at Under-16 level.

The Glasgow-born star is just the latest Celtic youth product to leave for England – following in the footsteps of players like Ben Doak, Rocco Vata, Karamoko Dembele and Daniel Kelly.

Football Insider revealed in November that Wolves, Fulham, Ipswich, Sunderland and Burnley have watched striker Daniel Cummings – who is a teammate of Dede in the Celtic B side – in action.

Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough have already signed Morgan Whittaker, George Edmundson and Ryan Giles this month.

Michael Carrick’s side sit sixth in the Championship table after losing against Preston on Saturday (25 January).
