Jozo Simunovic is close to quitting Celtic after after being offered a double-your-money contract by Lille, Football Insider can reveal.
The centre-back, 24, is in talks to join the French giants as he prepares to leave Parkhead before the window shuts next week.
A Celtic source has told Football Insider the club do not expect to hold on to Simunovic after Lille opened the bidding for him with a £4million move this week.
Lille coach Christophe Galtier has already confirmed his interest in the Croatian and is keen to land him ahead of the cut-off next Thursday as the club prepare to submit an improved offer.
The French club, fresh from banking the first instalment from Arsenal of the £72million sale of Nicolas Pepe, have offered Simunovic’s camp a lucrative long-term contract that would see his wages of around £10,000-a-week double.
Celtic are vulnerable to losing the defender as he has entered the final two years of his contract and has had his head turned by the Lille interest.
Simunovic, who joined the Hoops from Dinamo Zagreb in 2015, has made 114 appearances for the club in four years and been a key member of the team that has dominated Scottish football.
He has started and played the full 90 minutes in all four of Celtic’s Champions League qualifiers this season.
