Exclusive: Charlie Allen in talks to join Osters IF after Leeds United exit

Leeds United’s former striker Charlie Allen has opened talks over a move to Swedish club Osters IF, sources have told Football Insider.

Allen, 20, became a free agent after he was released by Leeds upon the expiry of his contract earlier in the summer.

He has been free to assess his options away from Elland Road, with the Swedish outfit swooping to secure his signature ahead of other interested parties.

Osters IF will now look to reach an agreement over the terms of Allen’s contract before progressing further with the formalities of a deal.

Allen progressed through the Linfield academy in Northern Ireland and broke into their first team before making the move to join Leeds’ under-18s side in 2020.

The midfielder made his senior debut for Linfield at the age of 15 and bagged an assist as he became the club’s youngest-ever player.

However, he failed to make a single appearance for Leeds in four years after moving to England, with his time at the club spent mostly in the under-21s.

A short-term loan move to National League outfit York City was sealed on 19 February last season, but he made just four appearances and started just twice.

Osters IF finished last season in fourth place, just one point away from reaching third, which would have sealed their place in the promotion playoff.

As things stand, they sit second in the Superettan – Sweden’s second division – and are looking to sign Allen in an attempt to boost their promotion chances.

In other news, Sunderland have signed Ian Poveda after his exit from Leeds.
