Exclusive: Chelsea player undergoes Derby medical after loan terms agreed

Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori is undergoing a medical at Derby County after agreeing to join on a season-long loan, Football Insider sources understands.

New Derby boss Frank Lampard has used his contacts at old club Chelsea to agree the capture of Tomori for the entirety of the 2018-19 campaign.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that a number of Championship clubs have expressed an interest in taking Tomori on loan, but Derby have moved quickly to agree a deal with Chelsea and secure his signature.

England Under-21 international Tomori is currently undergoing a medical at Pride Park and is set to become Lampard’s latest new signing at Derby.

Tomori spent last season on loan at Hull City and made 25 appearances for the Tigers in the Championship.

The 20-year-old has been back at Chelsea for pre-season training, but he is well down the pecking orer at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are happy to loan out the central defender again this season so that he can continue his development with regular first-team football.
