Exclusive: Chris Davies given two weeks to save his job at Birmingham City

Birmingham City manager Chris Davies is under growing pressure from the club’s owners, sources have told Football Insider.

The Blues currently sit 12th in the Championship after 11 games of the season, and are already 10 points adrift of table-toppers Coventry City.

Davies‘ side picked up their first win in five games on Tuesday (21 October) evening, beating Preston North End 1-0.

However, Birmingham’s hugely ambitious US owners are still disappointed with the club’s start to the campaign after a summer of heavy investment, and are beginning to become impatient.

Chris Davies must deliver before international break

Sources say that the period between now and the next international break is critical for Davies in terms of keeping his Birmingham job.

The newly promoted side face Bristol City, Portsmouth, Millwall and Middlesbrough before the two-week hiatus in the middle of November.

Last month, Football Insider exclusively revealed that Birmingham owner Tom Wagner had jetted into the UK to watch the side with Davies under pressure.

Wagner and the rest of the club’s hierarchy attended draws against Sheffield Wednesday and Wrexham.

Birmingham owners want top two finish

On Sunday (19 October), Football Insider exclusively revealed that Wagner has told the Birmingham players that he wants a top-two finish in the Championship this season.

Sources say that the Blues owner visited the dressing room after the game against Wrexham and made it clear to the squad that they are expected to achieve automatic promotion.

Over the summer, Birmingham signed the likes of Demari Gray, Kyogo Furuhashi, and Tommy Doyle.

The hierarchy at the club believes that the heavy investment over the past two summers has given Davies a side that can achieve promotion to the Premier League.

If he cannot convince the owners that he is the right man for the job over the next two weeks, then he risks being dismissed.
