Exclusive: Chris Davies under scrutiny at Birmingham City after owners jet in
Chris Davies is under growing scrutiny from Birmingham City’s owners after the team’s mixed start to the season, sources have told Football Insider.
Birmingham are 11th in the Championship, eight matches into the campaign, and failed to defeat whipping boys Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night.
Davies took over at St Andrews in the summer of 2024 and guided the club to the League One title at the first time of asking, surpassing Reading’s 2005–06 record of 106 for the highest points total in the EFL.
The ambitious Second City outfit have endured an underwhelming start to the Championship campaign, in which they have been expected to challenge for consecutive promotions to the Premier League.
This comes on the back of another summer of heavy spending, backed by the US ownership.

Birmingham owners fly in as pressure grows on Chris Davies
Birmingham owner Tom Wagner and the rest of the club’s hierarchy jetted into the UK to attend the game against Sheffield Wednesday and will remain for Friday’s clash against Wrexham.
The Blues have won just one of their last six matches in all competitions, and will hope to turn their form around as they make the trip to North Wales.
Over the summer, Birmingham signed the likes of Demari Gray, Kyogo Furuhashi, and Tommy Doyle.

After their impressive business in the transfer market, the Midlands side had been tipped by many to replicate Ipswich Town and go from League One all the way up to the Premier League in just two seasons.
However, the reality has been somewhat different, with Birmingham sitting firmly in mid-table as it stands.
Davies facing abnormal pressure to deliver
Incredibly, since Davies was appointed just over a year ago, Birmingham have lost just six league matches in total.
Despite this, with the lofty ambitions of the Blues’ US owners, the 40-year-old will not be judged in the same way as managers at other Championship sides.
If Davies doesn’t provide confidence that he can take the club up to the Premier League, then he will be dismissed without a second thought.
City have only managed seven league goals so far this season, averaging less than one a game, and if their lack of threat isn’t addressed, then a managerial change may be made.
