Exclusive: Christoph Kramer arrives at Leeds
Christoph Kramer is believed to be currently training at Leeds United ahead of a potential move, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed the Yorkshire giant are giving the 33-year-old defensive midfielder a chance to impress enough to earn a contract at Elland Road.
Football Insider then exclusively reported that a German footballer has been on trial at the club, which can now be revealed as Kramer.
Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that Daniel Farke has never been overly keen on signing a free agent, feeling that it’s hard to get them up to the pace necessary to play after a period out of the game.
However, Kramer has worked under the Leeds boss before at Borussia Monchengladbach and the club are light on options in central midfield.
Leeds only have Joe Rothwell and Ao Tanaka to cover those positions unless they promote Charlie Crew from the academy into the first team.
Leeds United are dealing with a midfield injury crisis
The Championship side are struggling in midfield after Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev suffered knee injuries that will keep them out of action until the new year.
That situation would only become worse if Rothwell or Tanaka got hurt, which would put the Yorkshire giants in major trouble in the midfield area.
Although signing a free agent is something Farke is reluctant to do, it’s a decision that he might be forced into making to enhance his options.

Kramer has been a free agent since August when his contract with Borussia Monchengladbach was terminated after ten years with the club.
The defensive midfielder has never played in England, but he has made 271 appearances in the Bundesliga and could provide plenty of experience.
