Chelsea defender Jake Clarke-Salter is set to join Sunderland on loan, Football Insider sources understand.
Clarke-Salter has come through the ranks at Chelsea and is highly regarded at Stamford Bridge.
The Premier League giants are in advanced talks to secure a loan deal with the Championship strugglers that runs until the end of the season.
The 20-year-old made his first team debut in April 2016 when he came off the bench in a Premier League game at Aston Villa.
Clarke-Salter was a regular at youth level for England and he was a member of the Under-20 squad that won the World Cup last summer.
Clarke-Salter has made just one first-team appearance this season against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup in September and with the defender being well down the pecking order in Antonio Conte’s plans they are ready to send him out on loan for the second half of the campaign.
A number of Championship clubs made enquiries about taking Clarke-Salter on loan, but Sunderland have moved quickly to agree a deal with Chelsea for the defender.
