Exclusive: Coventry City to announce Frank Lampard deal after agreement

Frank Lampard’s appointment as the new Coventry City manager is imminent and could be announced as early as Wednesday, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed the 46-year-old has agreed a deal with the Sky Blues and his arrival will be confirmed soon.

Football Insider revealed last Friday (22 November) that Lampard had reached a full agreement to take charge at Coventry but explained an announcement was some days away.

Sources first told Football Insider on 9 November that the legendary ex-midfielder was a top contender for the vacancy.

The Englishman is poised to take his first job in the dugout since leaving a caretaker role at Chelsea at the end of the 2022-23 campaign.

Coventry sacked Mark Robins earlier this month after eight years at the club, with the Sky Blues sitting 17th in the Championship.

The Sky Blues remain in 17th with interim boss Rhys Carr taking charge of the last two second-tier games, including Tuesday’s (26 November) 2-0 defeat against Burnley.

Coventry could announce Lampard appointment on Wednesday

Lampard’s last permanent role came with Everton – lasting just under a year at Goodison Park before being sacked with a record of 12 wins in 44 games.

The 46-year-old has previous Championship experience with Derby, leading them to the play-off final in the 2018-19 season – where they were defeated by Aston Villa.

He is now set to take charge at the CBS Arena ahead of the busy festive schedule with the task of lifting Coventry up the Championship table and away from relegation danger.

The Sky Blues face fellow strugglers Cardiff on Saturday (30 November) before taking on Millwall next week (7 December).
