Exclusive: Coventry plot surprise move for Swansea’s Alan Sheehan

Swansea City assistant head coach Alan Sheehan is a surprise contender for the vacant manager’s job at Coventry City, sources have told Football Insider.

Coventry are searching for a new manager following the sacking of long-serving boss Mark Robins earlier this week.

Sheehan, 38, is highly regarded within coaching circles and holds the Uefa Pro licence – the highest coaching qualification available in European football.

The Irishman boasts a wealth of coaching experience having worked under Nathan Jones at Luton and Southampton before joining Swansea as assistant head coach in the summer of 2023.

The former Leicester and Leeds defender was named caretaker manager of Swansea following the sacking of Michael Duff in December 2023.

He helped oversee three wins in seven Championship games before the appointment of Luke Williams as head coach.

Sheehan is surprise Coventry contender after Robins sack

Robins was sacked at Coventry after seven years at the club on Thursday (7 November) in the wake of the Sky Blues’ 2-1 home defeat against promoted Derby.

That result leaves the Midlands club 17th in the Championship table and level on points with Plymouth Argyle, who are in the relegation zone after 14 games of the 2024-25 campaign.

Coventry

Coventry sacked the well-liked boss despite him leading the club to a play-off final shoot-out loss in the 2022-23 season and an FA Cup semi-final last term.

Their next fixture before the November international break comes against league leaders Sunderland on Saturday (9 November).
