Exclusive: Crystal Palace working on deal to sign Ethan Pinnock

Crystal Palace are in talks to sign Brentford defender Ethan Pinnock before the close of the transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The centre-back has played just six times in all competitions for the Bees this season as they impress under Keith Andrews.

Pinnock, 32, has been with Brentford since a 2019 move from Barnsley, racking up over 200 appearances in the last six-and-a-half years.

Crystal Palace are after centre-back reinforcements in the final stages of the winter window following Marc Guehi’s move to Man City last month.

Oliver Glasner‘s side could swoop for Pinnock and offer him the game time he desires in the second half of this season.

Pinnock could move across the capital to join Palace

Pinnock went from playing in the National League with Forest Green to Premier League football with Brentford in just five years, via a two-year spell at Barnsley as he helped them win promotion to the Championship.

He was a regular under Thomas Frank and named in the Championship Team of the Year as the Bees went up to the top flight in 2021.

The centre-back continued as a constant starter under Frank over the next few seasons, but injury issues restricted him to making 23 appearances last term, while he has been ousted under Andrews this season.

A fully-fledged international for Jamaica, the 32-year-old has picked up 26 caps for his country since debuting in March 2021.

Adam Wharton will be staying at Palace until the summer at least

Palace are aiming to strengthen Glasner’s squad as the deadline rapidly approaches, with Guehi having already left and Jean-Philippe Mateta on his way to AC Milan.

There has been widespread talk around Wharton‘s future for several months now, as he makes a name for himself as one of the Premier League’s finest midfielders at Selhurst Park.

A whole host of top clubs are believed to be lining up moves for the England man, but sources have confirmed to Football Insider that Wharton will be staying at Palace for the remainder of the campaign.

Both Liverpool and Man United are believed to be planning respective approaches for his services in the summer, while Man City and Real Madrid are also keeping tabs on his availability.
