Danny Mills says that it is “refreshing” to have a manager like Marcelo Bielsa after he turned up to a Leeds United formal centenary dinner wearing his tracksuit.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Leeds and England defender says that the first-team coach clearly does not care what anybody thinks of him after the “unusual” sight of him in his team jacket and trousers.
While the first-team squad and former stars at Elland Road were in black tie for the centenary dinner, the Argentine boss was pictured in the same tracksuit that he would wear on a matchday.

Mills says that the manager’s unique approach behind-the-scenes makes him stand out like a sore thumb in modern football and that the club are better for having a character like that at the helm.
Mills told Football Insider: “The manager managed to turn up to a black-tie in his tracksuit. That goes to show one, how focused he is and he’s constantly at work. We’ve seen him all over social media, I think he lives in that tracksuit.
“For a black-tie do it was quite unusual to see everyone in suits and black ties and then suddenly to see the current manager turn up in his Leeds United tracksuit. That’s how he is. He’s different, he’s unique, he’s not bothered by what anybody else thinks.
“He does what he wants to do because he believes in it. That’s the mentality you have to have in this world of social media, popularity contests, styles of play, it’s quite refreshing to have a coach who just says: ‘No, I’m not going to bow down to the pressures of all that. You brought me in to do a job and I’m going to do the job to the best of my ability and how I want to do it, if you don’t like it, I’ll leave.'”
Bielsa has been in charge of Leeds since the summer of 2018, establishing himself as a firm favourite among the Elland Road faithful with his exciting and successful brand of football.
He has found himself in the spotlight on numerous occasions, most notably for last season’s Spygate saga and the ensuing aftermath.
In other Leeds United news, the club have stalled in contract talks for one player at Elland Road.
