Leeds United do not need to sign Norwich City defender Todd Cantwell despite his “fabulous ability”, according to Danny Mills.
The former Whites and Coventry defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, is adamant that Marcelo Bielsa already has enough options in that area and that the arrival of the 22-year-old would make the midfield “crowded”.
Football Insider revealed on Sunday that the Whites had tabled a £15million bid for the Englishman they scouted extensively last season.
Cantwell, who started Norwich’s first two games of the Championship campaign, was left out of the Daniel Farke’s squad that lost 1-0 to Bournemouth last weekend.
He still has two years remaining on his contract at Carrow Road having penned a new three-year deal last summer.
When asked by Football Insider if Cantwell would be a welcome addition at Elland Road, Mills said: “That could be a possibility for Leeds.
“He has fabulous ability but if you are Leeds or Bielsa I would be thinking, ‘Do I need him?’
“Does he really add to what Leeds have already got in those positions right now? They have Mateusz Klich, Rodrigo, Costa, Harrison and others.
“It would make the midfield quite crowded and I think the money would be better off spent in other areas.”
His 40 appearances in the 2019/20 campaign yielded an impressive seven goals and two assists and attracted interest from some of the Premier League’s elite clubs.
Leeds recruitment chief Victor Orta is still in the hunt for a number eight before the window closes on Monday with a deal for Bayern Munich’s Michael Cuisance close to completion.
In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that the club are plotting a shock move to sign forward Pochettino compared to Messi.
