Danny Mills says that Leeds United winger Jack Clarke will be handed the chance to prove himself in the first-team during the busy run of fixtured over the festive period.

The former Leeds and England full-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says that the young wide man needs to work hard and snatch any opportunities he is handed, suggesting Marcelo Bielsa will be forced to call upon him very soon.

As revealed by Football Insider, Bielsa has held talks with Clarke to tell him that he is impressed with the winger’s application on the training ground and that his chance will come if he continues to work hard.

With the winter months throwing up a vast number of games in a short period of time, Mills says that his chance to play and prove himself will come over the coming weeks.

Mills told Football Insider: “Fixture congestion, they come thick and fast, there’s not a lot of rest, the weather’s cold, training’s a little bit harder. With all these sort of things, players are a little bit more susceptible to injuries, little bit of fatigue and tiredness with the cold weather.

“Jack, all he has to do is work incredibly hard and keep going. When he gets his opportunity he’s got to take it but it’s undoubted that over that period he will be given opportunities.”

Clarke, who is at Leeds on loan from Tottenham after his transfer to the Lilywhites, has been fit all season but has only played twice in the League Cup, Bielsa leaving him as an unused substitute for the last eight league games.

He has the likes of Pablo Hernandez, Helder Costa, Jack Harrison and Ezgjan Alioski to battle with for a place in the first-team squad and starting XI.

In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that the club have agreed the terms of a £5million-plus deal.
