Exclusive: Darren Bent blown away by Aston Villa star who had 'Game of his life' v Norwich

Darren Bent gushed about Aston Villa goalkeeper Tom Heaton following his performance against Norwich City.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former Villans striker admitted Norwich were the better team on Boxing Day despite them losing 1-0 to Dean Smith’s side.

Norwich had 16 shots during their loss to Villa, with six of their efforts hitting the target, whereas Smith’s team only saw two of their 11 attempts work the keeper.

Bent claimed Heaton had the game of his life against the Canaries as he saved absolutely everything and credited Villa for getting an important win.

The ex-Villa striker also referred to the fact the win against Norwich was important as it sees them live to fight another day in their battle against relegation.

“Norwich arguably were the better team yesterday and Tom Heaton had the game of his life when he saved absolutely everything,” Bent told Football Insider.

“So well played to Villa, they live to fight another day.”

The 33-year-old English shot-stopper arrived at Villa Park in the summer after joining the club from Burnley.

So far this season, Heaton has played 18 times across all competitions, conceding 31 goals in the process.

The win over the Canaries wasn’t enough to see Villa move out of the relegation zone as they currently sit 18th in the table.

The Villans are next in action on Saturday with them travelling to Vicarage Road to face bottom-of-the-league Watford.
