Darren Bent heaped praise on Aston Villa summer signing Trezeguet after his cameo appearance in the 2-1 win over Brighton.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former Villans attacker revealed he thought Trezeguet was a great asset to the club and suggested 10-men Brighton must have dreaded seeing him being brought on during Saturday’s clash.
The Egyptian winger was brought on in the 63rd minute against Brighton to replace Conor Hourihane and he helped the Villans go on to win the match after they were previously a goal behind.
Bent revealed that he thought Trezeguet had a tendency to be ineffective when starting games but pointed out that Smith carefully selected when to play him as he can cause opponents problems due to his pace.
When asked if Trezeguet is an asset to the Villans given his speed, Bent told Football Insider: “Yea he does comes on and cause problems as you said there, when he starts games he can be a little ineffective.
“But you’re right when you’ve got someone with that kind of pace to come off the bench, it can change the tide, and they’re down to 10-men and you see the speed demon coming on…you’re thinking ‘Aww, here we go’.
“He is a great asset to come of the bench, there will be some games where he will be better off starting, and yesterday it was a game where it was better that he came off the bench and Dean Smith recognises that, that’s what makes him a very good manager.”
Trezeguet joined the Villans from Turkish side Kasimpasa in the summer but has only started 56% of the club’s league games so far.
In the eight league outings, the 25-year-old has made, Trezeguet is yet to complete 90 minutes and only has one assist to show for his efforts.
In other Aston Villa news, a Football Insider pundit claimed this big-name Aston Villa star is causing Smith a headache.
