Darren Bent heaped praise on Newcastle United attacker Miguel Almiron and revealed the Paraguay international did impress him despite not scoring or registering an assist for the Magpies.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former England international shared that he thought Almiron did a lot of stuff really well but questioned whether his end product was good enough.
Almiron has played 19 times for the Magpies since joining from MLS side Atlanta United but is yet to score a goal or register an assist for the club.
Bent explained that he believes if Almiron gets a goal and continues playing the way he is then Newcastle fans could end up falling in love with him.
When asked if Almiron is able to impress despite not scoring a goal or registering an assist, Bent told Football Insider: “He does impress me.
“He does some stuff really well but there’s other stuff…like the chance against United, he seemed to take half-a-day before he got the shot off, I do think he needs a goal as he is playing really really well, to a point.
“The most vital part which is either the cross or the finish, aren’t quite yet, but I’m sure if he can add a goal or two to his game, the way he is playing at the minute, the Newcastle fans will fall in love with him as he has got a lot in the locker.
“He can put a shift in, can run past people, got a lot of pace, made a load of intelligent runs and if he can just get that goal, I think that will set everything up.”
Almiron has featured in every one of the Magpies’ Premier League games so far and has been deployed as a right-winger, attacking midfielder as well as a secondary striker in some of his outings.
The 25-year-old isn’t the only Newcastle player to have struggled for goals this season as Steve Bruce’s side have only managed five goals in their first nine league games of the season between them.
