Exclusive: David Moyes ally shares Wolves next manager update

David Moyes is in line to take over from Wolves boss Gary O’Neil as pressure continues to build on his position following a 2-2 draw v Crystal Palace.

This is according to former West Ham scout Mick Brown, who worked closely alongside Moyes at the London Stadium, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 61-year-old would be “perfect” for the role given their issues in recent weeks.

Wolves are currently bottom of the Premier League table after ten games and are without a win in that time, drawing three and losing seven of their games so far.

While performances at Molineux haven’t reflected the results, their lack of defensive structure and solidity has seen them ship 27 league goals already.

Following the draw with Palace, O’Neil’s side has conceded two or more goals in eight consecutive games, ramping up the pressure on the manager’s position.

Moyes has been backed to eradicate their defensive issues, including their problems at dealing with set-pieces, should he be chosen to replace the current boss.

David Moyes tipped to replace Gary O’Neil after Wolves sack decision

Pressure on O’Neil’s position continues to grow with each passing week, although a favourable run of fixtures up next could serve to save his job.

Brown, who remains very well-connected in the game and has a wealth of experience at the top level, insisted that Moyes is “very much under consideration” for the role, but O’Neil must win games soon if he wants to keep his position.

O’Neil needs to start winning games soon,” he told Football Insider.

“But I would think David Moyes would be very much under consideration if they choose to sack him.

“Over a period of time now, I’ve seen Wolves play some decent football, but they keep losing.

“And the reason they keep losing is because they keep making defensive errors.

“Now, if the board can see that like everybody else can, they’ll get a manager in who can immediately look to remedy those issues, and Moysey would be perfect for that.

“You never know with owners, though, because these days they want to play more attractive football, often at the expense of results.

“I strongly believe Moyes should be in the game and still has a lot to offer.

“If Gary O’Neil does get sacked, and you’d think he would if results keep going the way they do, Moyes has to be the one to take over.”
