Sheffield United have agreed a fee for Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Lee Evans following his impressive form on loan at Wigan Athletic, Football Insider sources understand.
Football Insider can reveal that Evans has been given permission to travel to South Yorkshire for talks and a medical and United hope to tie up a move for the all-action midfielder in the next 24 hours.
Evans has spent the first half of the season on loan at Wigan after finding himself out of favour at Wolves.
The Wales international has been instrumental in helping Wigan to the top of League One and his performances have not gone unnoticed by other clubs.
Sheffield United have been alerted to Evans’ performances for Wigan and they have had a £750,000 offer accepted by Championship rivals Wolves as Blades boss Chris Wilder looks to strengthen his squad at Bramall Lane.
Wolves recalled Evans from his loan spell at Wigan over the weekend after terminating his original season-long loan as they prepare to sell the 23-year-old and Wigan are not able to compete with Sheffield United’s offer.
Wilder is in the market for midfield reinforcements after losing the influential Paul Coutts to a serious knee injury in November and Evans is set to join Ryan Leonard in becoming United’s latest new arrival in this month’s transfer window.
In other Wolves transfer news, the club are in a battle with Leeds to sign a left-sided flyer and a four-and-a-half year contract is already agreed.
