Exclusive: Everton make Liam Delap transfer decision, Chelsea asking price revealed

Everton have made Chelsea striker Liam Delap a top target for the summer transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The Blues are ready to sanction a sale for the 23-year-old even though he only arrived last summer from Ipswich Town.

Delap was signed in a deal worth around £30million, and decision-makers at Stamford Bridge hope to recoup that fee as they look for a new senior striker.

The England youth international is a striker in the style that David Moyes favours in his teams – tall, physically dominant and technically secure.

Everton signed a similar style of player in Thierno Barry from Villarreal last season, and he has started to find his feet in the Premier League.

David Moyes to bolster Everton attack

Barry struggled for minutes at the start of the season, with Moyes initially sticking with Beto.

The 28-year-old was a difference-maker for the Scot following his return to Everton last season, scoring seven goals in the final months of the season.

But it quickly became apparent that Beto was not giving the Toffees what he had last season, and Moyes found himself in a difficult situation.

Chance creation has not been an issue – Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye have been superb this season, although the former will now return to Man City after he was ruled out through injury.

Both Beto and Barry failed to impress, however, and found themselves rotated constantly.

Eventually, Moyes decided to stick with Barry, and he has been rewarded. The France youth international has started to thrive in the Premier League, and recently scored four goals in a five-game run.

Everton may look to part ways with Beto in the summer amid Barry’s transformation, and Delap appears to be the desired target to replace him.

Liam Delap facing Chelsea exit

Chelsea looked to have secured a bargain when they signed Delap. The 23-year-old scored 12 goals in the Premier League for a struggling Ipswich side last season, and was a constant threat.

But his time at Stamford Bridge has not gone how he or the Blues would have imagined it.

The striker was hit by a hamstring injury early into his time with Chelsea, and he has struggled to surpass Joao Pedro in the team since returning fit.

Liam Rosenior, who managed Delap at Hull City, was appointed in January in what appeared to be a big moment for the striker, but he has played even less frequently, if anything.

Having scored just two goals in 24 appearances across all competitions this season, there is now a very real chance that Delap is sold this summer.
