Exclusive: Everton make surprise Jack Grealish decision, David Moyes concerns emerge

Everton are cooling their interest in signing Jack Grealish permanently from Manchester City, sources have told Football Insider.

Grealish won the Premier League Player of the Month award for August after a fantastic start to the season, but his form has slowed in recent months.

Sources say Everton and manager David Moyes do not see the £50million option agreed in the summer loan-to-buy package, plus his huge wages, as good value.

Grealish, 30, is perceived to have no potential to improve, with his age also meaning that the Merseysiders would likely be unable to sell him on for a substantial fee in the future.

Everton are now unlikely to proceed with the deal unless the price is reduced significantly by Manchester City.

That will be viewed as a surprise in some quarters given how well he started at Everton following his summer move.

Jack Grealish’s stance on signing permanently for Everton is clear

Sources have told Football Insider that Grealish only has eyes for Everton when considering his long-term future.

The Toffees won the race to sign the winger in the summer, after Pep Guardiola had made it clear that he would not be involved in his plans.

At Manchester City, the England international appeared lost – a shadow of the player who had set the Premier League alight with Aston Villa.

But his early weeks with Everton looked to have served as a breath of fresh air, with the 30-year-old having a transformative effect.

Grealish registered four assists in just his first two Premier League starts for Everton, and was a constant threat on the left of the attack.

Since then, the former Villa man’s form has slowed, but he has produced key moments with winners against Crystal Palace and Bournemouth.

Grealish leads his team in chances created, fouls won and expected assists, representing a talisman for Moyes.

What has David Moyes said about Grealish?

After Grealish had produced a stunning display in Everton’s 3-2 win away at Wolves in August, Moyes waxed lyrical about his new star.

“He is even better than I thought,” the Scot admitted. “He probably needs a bit of love and attention. He needs the games as well.

“Hopefully he starts building on it and he gets even better as the season goes on. He is making a big difference. Whether it is his assists, his presence, lots of things.”

Grealish’s form has slowed in recent weeks. Against Arsenal, he was largely invisible without his wing partner Iliman Ndiaye, who has travelled to the Africa Cup of Nations.

And as the summer approaches, Everton will face a key decision on both the winger and the fee he will command.
