Exclusive: Everton open talks over Idrissa Gueye deal

Everton are in talks with midfielder Idrissa Gueye over a new contract, sources have told Football Insider.

The 35-year-old’s current deal is set to expire in June – but sources say the Toffees are expected to extend the midfielder’s stay at the club.

Everton are not expected to make a final decision on keeping Gueye until the end of the 2024-25 campaign but are closing in on an agreement.

The midfielder has been ever-present since David Moyes‘ return to Merseyside earlier this year.

Everton expected to agree Gueye deal

Gueye returned to Everton in 2022 after a spell with Paris Saint-Germain and already signed a 12-month extension at Goodison Park in 2024.

He has made 36 appearances across all competitions this term – starting in 33 of those outings.

The midfielder, who turns 36 in September, will play at the Africa Cup of Nations later this year with Senegal.

Gueye is one of a number of Everton stars out of contract in June – with Ashley Young, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Michael Keane also set to walk away for free.

Everton set sights on Soucek

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on Sunday (27 April) that Everton have entered the race to sign West Ham star Tomas Soucek ahead of the summer transfer window.

Moyes is keen on a reunion with the 30-year-old after the success of their time together at the London Stadium.

West Ham could accept £10million offers for Soucek, with newly-promoted Leeds United also keeping an eye on his situation.
