Darren Bent has urged Everton to sign Wilfried Zaha claiming he is the only thing missing after their recent trio of midfield signings.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Spurs ace delivered his verdict after Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson said the winger wanted to join a big club.
Speaking after Palace’s 1-0 win over Southampton on Saturday Hodgson said Zaha hopes a “big club comes in and takes him from us”.
This site revealed last month that Everton have asked Palace to be kept informed of Zaha’s situation but will not pay the £70million they offered last summer.
Carlo Ancelotti has added midfielders Allan, James Rodriguez and Abdoulaye Doucoure this window and now Bent believes Zaha is the missing piece in Everton’s starting eleven.
He told Football Insider: “I’d like to see Everton go and get Zaha.
“Added to the Rodriguez, Allan and Doucoure signings, alongside Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison, that there is exciting.
“It doesn’t surprise me (that he wants a move). I like Crystal Palace as a football club but what are there ambitions?
“I hate teams that just stay in the Premier League for the sake of it. Surely you want to see them go and try and win a cup or do something.
“Crystal Palace are stuck in a phase where they’re a little too good to go down but they can’t get in the top eight so what do they really do?
“I think Zaha, with his performances over the last couple of seasons, has earned the right to have another crack with one of the big boys at the top end of the table.”
