Exclusive: Ex-Rangers striker heads to Crewe after deal terminated

Ex-Rangers striker Joe Dodoo has headed to Crewe Alexandra after his contract at Ankara Keciörengücü was terminated, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The forward, 25, is looking for a new club following the abrupt end to his time in the second tier of Turkish football.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Dodoo is training with the League One outfit as he looks to rebuild his career in England.

The forward is available on a free transfer just five months after his move to Ankara was sealed.

Dodoo signed a two-year contract with the option of a third year.

But it was terminated a few weeks ago as his spell in Turkey lasted just a few months.

A versatile forward who can play down the middle or out wide, Dodoo scored four goals and provided four assists from 24 league matches while at Bolton Wanderers in League One last season.

The previous two campaigns had been spent out on loan at other third-tier clubs – Blackpool in 2018-19 and Charlton Athletic in 2017-18.

Dodoo made a decent impression for the Tangerines, scoring six goals and providing four assists from 25 appearances.

The former England Under-18 international will now look to reignite a career that had once had scouts from Premier League clubs watching him closely.

He was signed by Rangers from Leicester City on a free in the summer of 2016 by ex-manager Mark Warburton.

He scored five goals and provided three assists from 27 appearances at the Glasgow giants.

In other news, a big update on Rangers re-signing Billy Gilmour and if a deal can still be done.
