Exclusive: Frontrunner named as Plymouth Argyle and Hibernian chase Wes Harding deal

Plymouth are leading the hunt ahead of Wigan and Hibernian for Millwall right-back Wes Harding, sources have told Football Insider.

Harding has fallen down the pecking order at Millwall this season, and the South London outfit are now open to offers for the 29-year-old ahead of Monday’s imminent transfer deadline.

Plymouth are keen to boost their survival hopes in League One, and have now identified Harding as a player who is capable of helping them to put further daylight between them and the bottom four.

Tom Cleverley’s side have added Ronan Curtis to their group already this month, and they are now poised to potentially make Harding their second addition of the window.

Plymouth to beat Hibernian to Wes Harding’s signature

The League One table is as congested as ever this season, with Plymouth currently sitting seven places above the relegation zone, but with just a six-point buffer at the moment.

The January window could have a crucial impact on how the second half of the season plays out for the clubs who are in danger of going down, and the Pilgrims are keen to strengthen right up until the deadline.

They look set to potentially beat Hibs to Harding’s signature in the coming days, with the former Birmingham City man on the verge of a drop into League One.

Harding has predominantly been a Championship player throughout his career, having spent just one season in the third tier during his time with Rotherham, but he could now be on the verge of a step down in level.

That is unless Hibernian can force their way past Plymouth and Wigan in order to strike a rapid deal.

Plymouth’s relegation rivals fighting off interest in key star

Football Insider revealed on Friday that Burton had rejected a six-figure bid from Bradford City for their striker Jake Beesley.

The Brewers currently occupy League One’s final relegation spot with 18 games of the season remaining, and they are desperately trying to fend off interest in their star man from further up the division.

Promotion-chasing Bradford have Beesley in their sights, but they have so far been unsuccessful in their bid to snatch Burton’s top goalscorer.

Plymouth will be watching developments at the Pirelli Stadium closely in the final hours of the window, and they will be strongly hoping that their relegation rivals are ultimately unable to resist a sale.
