Exclusive: George Campbell having West Brom medical today ahead of move

CF Montreal defender George Campbell is undergoing his West Brom medical today ahead of a move to the Hawthorns, sources have told Football Insider.

Campbell, 24, is set to make the switch to the Championship after the Baggies agreed a fee with the MLS side.

The American has been given the green light to finalise personal terms and undergo a medical with the Midlands club.

Back in January, the centre-back made his debut for the USA national side, playing 88 minutes during a 3-1 win against Venezuela.

West Brom set for third summer signing

West Brom appointed Ryan Mason as their new manager at the beginning of last month, and the former Tottenham man has started to put together his squad for the upcoming campaign.

The Baggies have already confirmed the additions of Liverpool centre-back Nat Phillips and Norwegian youngster Aune Heggebo.

Now, the Championship side look set to bring in their third signing of the summer, as Campbell makes the move across the Atlantic.

The defender has started 15 games for Montreal in the MLS this season, but has been absent from the Canadian side’s last two matches, which hinted his switch to West Brom was close to completion.

West Brom plot move for ex-Crystal Palace star

Meanwhile, Football Insider have exclusively revealed that West Brom are plotting a move for former Crystal Palace man Jeffrey Schlupp on a free transfer.

Schlupp, 32, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Celtic, is a free agent after leaving Crystal Palace last month upon the expiration of his contract.

West Brom are planning to rebuild their squad under new manager Mason, and he sees the former Eagles man’s experience and versatility as a key addition to his squad at The Hawthorns.

Schlupp made 18 appearances for Celtic last term, helping Brendan Rodgers’ men retain their Scottish Premiership title.
