Exclusive: Georginio Rutter undergoing Brighton medical today

Leeds United star Georginio Rutter is heading to Brighton to undergo his medical on Thursday after agreeing a deal, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider exclusively revealed earlier today (15 August) that Rutter had decided to accept Brighton’s offer and was set to make the move.

The Seagulls triggered a £40million release clause in the 22-year-old’s United contract on Wednesday after failing with two previous bids.

It is believed that the release clause had been set to expire on Wednesday night.

Sources say the Frenchman was offered a significant wage increase to make the move to the Premier League after Leeds failed to earn promotion last season.

An agreement has now been reached between both parties and Rutter will travel to the South Coast to complete the formalities of the deal.

Leeds have endured a difficult start to the season following a 3-3 draw with Portsmouth and a 3-0 defeat to Middlesbrough at Elland Road.

Rutter picked up an assist in the former as he looks to carry his impressive form from last season through, but Brighton have now moved quickly to bring him to the AMEX.

The Seagulls’ Premier League season is set to begin with a trip to face Everton at Goodison Park on 17 August, and they want to get the deal over the line before then.

Football Insider first revealed in July that Brighton were plotting to return with a new bid for the forward after failing in their initial efforts.

His impressive displays last season saw him score eight goals and provide 16 assists across all competitions last time out, inspiring interest from clubs across Europe.

Brighton, meanwhile, are looking to build on an 11th-placed finish and targeted Rutter as a key target to bolster their attacking options.

The deal will see him follow Cyrsencio Summerville and Archie Gray out of the door at Elland Road as Daniel Farke is dealt the latest significant blow to his squad.
