Noel Whelan has tipped Steven Gerrard to name Alfredo Morelos on the bench if he returns to the Rangers squad against Hamilton.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Aberdeen and Leeds striker insists he cannot see Kemar Roofe being dropped after he netted his first goal for the club against Kilmarnock last weekend.
Speaking at his press conference on Friday, Gerrard revealed that the 24-year-old Colombian had “refocused” himself on the training ground and that he was in contention to be included in Saturday’s matchday squad.
🎙️ SG: Alfredo (Morelos) has trained well this week, I'll make a decision on my squad later today. I analyse all the players on a daily basis and I pick based on the players I think will get the right result.

Morelos was left out completely against Killie as Gerrard admitted the striker had taken his eye “off the ball” in training.
With the South American star seemingly in line to return to the squad, Whelan insists he cannot see the Gers boss bringing him back into the starting XI.
Asked if a place on the bench was the best Morelos could hope for, Whelan told Football Insider: “Yeah, I think it’s very difficult to drop a striker that’s just scored a goal.
“When you drop a player and another player comes in it’s about taking your opportunity and Kemar’s done that.
“Steven, as much as it’s going to be a headache and it’s going to be a difficult decision to make, I would find it very unlikely you would drop Kemar Roofe when you’ve just bought him in for some decent money and he would be the ideal replacement for Morelos.
“I think he’ll give them the opportunity to see if they can go out there and bag another one.”
Morelos has scored two goals in four Premiership appearances this season, both of which came against St Mirren.
His brace against the Saints means he has now netted just three goals for Rangers in 2020.
