Tyrone Mings will be a “huge” miss for Aston Villa against Chelsea tonight, especially given the likely Blues reaction to their ego-bruising Arsenal defeat.
That is according to ex-Premier League midfielder Michael Brown, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.
Mings is serving a one-match ban after his dismissal for a second bookable offence against Crystal Palace on Sunday, not that it mattered in the context of that particular match as Villa went on to record a riotous 3-0 win.
But down the line – and particularly in tonight’s 8th vs 7th clash against a Chelsea side still smarting from their 3-1 Boxing Day loss to Arsenal – it could have severe consequences, says Brown.
He told Football Insider: “He [Mings] is a huge miss. We’ll have to see what kind of reaction we’re gonna get from this Chelsea side.
“You might, as an Aston Villa fan, be walking into this one thinking ‘oh, here we go.’
“But what was nice for Dean Smith was the way they played with 10 men, how they reacted to that Mings red card. That will give them some encouragement.
The emergence of 23-year-old Ezri Konsa as his centre-back partner has been key to Villa’s magnificent performances at the back, with Dean Smith keen for him to join Mings in signing a new long-term contract
