Burnley defender Jimmy Dunne is poised to join Fleetwood Town on loan after beating Accrington Stanley to his capture, Football Insider understands.
League One rivals Fleetwood and Accrington both made enquiries about Dunne’s availability, with Joey Barton’s men set to beat their north-west counterparts to the centre-back’s services.
A source at the Clarets has told Football Insider that the highly-rated 21-year-old is a long way down the pecking order under Sean Dyche and that the Cod Army are set to seal his capture on a temporary.
The Irishman had two spells out on loan last season, first joining Scottish Premiership side Hearts until January, making a total of 14 appearances north of the border.
He returned to England at the turn of the year and was shipped out to League One side Sunderland, playing 14 times for the Black Cats as they suffered play-off heartbreak to Charlton Athletic.
Burnley are happy to loan out Dunne so that he can continue his development with regular first-team football, having yet to feature for the Clarets’ senior side.
