Alan Hutton has been left raving over the improvements shown by Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor after revealing what he is like on the training ground.

The former Rangers defender and lifelong fan of the club, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says that the shot-stopper is a perfectionist in training as well as on matchday and that his success at Ibrox should come as no surprise.

McGregor returned to the Light Blues last summer, signing a two-year deal, with Football Insider revealing that the keeper is set to be handed a new and improved deal over the coming weeks.

Hutton says that the 37-year-old has actually improved during his second spell in Glasgow and revealed what he was like to play alongside on the training ground ahead of his new contract.

Hutton told Football Insider: “This is a guy I’ve known most of my footballing career. I’ve seen it day in, day out, he doesn’t like balls going past him in training never mind in a game, it’s just the way he is, the way he’s built.

“He looks after himself, he trains hard. He has stepped up this year and played some incredible games, some incredible football. Even his range of passing has got better so he’s really added to himself this year.

“Hopefully he can get that signed and concentrate on his football.”

McGregor has a total of 320 appearances under his belt for the Glasgow giants across his two separate spells at the club, with 18 of those outings coming this season.

He has Wes Foderingham as his understudy at Ibrox, the English stopper featuring just three times during the current campaign.

In other Rangers news, Hutton claims that “fans will be buzzing” over Steven Gerrard’s admission about a “special” talent at Ibrox.
